Frequenty Asked Questions - BTL Certification Program

Why are the BTL Listing and WSPCert Certificate programs being merged?

The BTL Listing and WSPCert Certificate programs are being merged for three reasons:

1.     eliminate potential user confusion regarding how to identify tested products

2.     simplify the overall certification process

3.     lower costs for suppliers

How do I apply for the new program?

Applications for BTL Certification will be accepted starting on January 2, 2017.  Please visit our Process Page (link) with details on the new application process.

Can I still apply to BTL for a Listing only?

No.

Can I still apply to WSPCert for a Certificate only?

No.

What happens to my current Certifications?

Current certifications will expire on April 1, 2017.  Current Certificate holders will receive applications in February 2017 for the BTL Certification program that replaces the WSPCert Certificate program.

How long does the new certification last?

The new Certificate will expire five years from date of issue. Annual renewals are still required to maintain the Certificate’s validity.

What happens to my current Listings?

Current Listings will be renewed in March 2017 with a process similar to prior years.  In June 2017 current Listing holders will be notified of how they can transition their current Listings to the new BTL Certification program.

Will my costs go up?

If all your products have current BTL Listings then your costs will not increase. If you have products with WSPCert Certificates that do not have BTL Listings then your costs may increase. The amount of the increase will depend on several factors, including the number of Certificates to be transitioned and membership status in BACnet International.

What about BTL Listing applications and WSPCert applications currently being processed?

Applications already submitted and currently being processed will be completed under the existing programs. If a WSPCert Certificate is issued under the existing process it will expire on May 1, 2017.

How can I get my currently listed products certified under the new program?

Current Listings will be renewed in March 2017 with a process similar to prior years.  In June 2017 current Listing holders will be notified of how they can transition their current Listings to the new BTL Certification program.
