BTL Certification Program

The BACnet Testing Laboratories (BTL) Certification Program provides companies with a Certificate of Conformance, a BTL Listing, and the right to use the BTL Mark.

The BTL Mark is a mark of distinction and has come to represent a high level of quality and conformance based on rigorous independent testing. The BTL Certification Program provides suppliers with a way to highlight products that have successfully completed this testing, while it provides users with assurance that these products have been independently tested and have passed industry standard BACnet testing. The tests are designed to validate that the product correctly implements a specified set of BACnet features. The rigorous testing associated with obtaining the right to use the BTL Mark is a powerful methodology for finding and eliminating implementation errors before a product reaches the market.

BTL Certification Program Process

The complete process for BTL Certification include Pre-testing by the manufacturer, BTL Testing at a Recognized BACnet Testing Organization (RBTO) and processing of a BTL Certification Application.

Complete BTL Testing:

Manufacturers must have their product tested at one of the Recognized BACnet Testing Organizations (RBTOs). Contact information for all RBTO’s may be found on the Device Testing page. The RBTO will provide the manufacturer with a final test report (FTR) when BTL Testing has been completed.

Apply for BTL Certification:

When a product has successfully completed BTL Testing, a final test report (FTR) will be issued on the tested product from the RBTO. This FTR will be needed when applying for BTL Certification. A company may apply for a BTL Certification for the tested and/or additional products and models of the same product family as long as these product/models share the same tested BACnet Stack.

BTL Certification Application and Attestation Forms can be found HERE

The BTL Certification Application requires the following documents and information:

Final Test Report (FTR) - provided by RBTO
PICS - Protocol Implementation Conformance Statement

Product description (displayed on website for members only)

Product image (displayed on website for members only)

Additional documentation: An attestation must be submitted for any products/models/version changes not identified on the FTR. The need for an attestation will be determined by BTL after a BTL Certification application is received.

BTL Certification Fees

Currently, there is no fee for processing a BTL Certification Application. There is an annual Listing fee of $2,000.00 (USD) per listed product. For Non-Corporate Members of BACnet International, please note that payment is required before your BTL Certification is able to be uploaded to the BTL Listing of Tested Products Database.

Once your product has obtained a BTL Certification it will be added to the BTL Listing of Tested Products Database and in accordance with the BTL Mark's usage policy. BTL Certified and Listed products in the BTL Listing of Tested Products Database must be maintained annually through the listing fee or BACnet Corporate Membership.
