(“we”, “us,” “”our”).  Accordingly we have established this Privacy and Data Use Policy to clarify how we use any personal information we may collect about you when you use the websites for BACnet International, The BACnet Institute and the BACnet Testing Laboratories.

1. Providing you with specific goods and services, including membership services, educational content, testing services, events, etc;

2. communicating with you about your membership, our events, other association news and business;

3. requesting your participation in surveys to help us understand community needs so we can better design and deliver our services;

4. analyzing membership composition and tailoring member and event services;

5. notifying you of opportunities for volunteer service with the association (your information may be shared with volunteers such as the Nominating Committee);

6. alerting you to the availability of information and tools related to BACnet device and system implementation.


Personally identifiable information may be provided to selected volunteers for the purpose of providing you with information you request by filling in a form on one of our sites. Personally identifiable information including your name or email address may be publicly displayed when you post on a community forum or public comment section on one of our websites.


How We Will Communicate with You

Providing you with information, notifications and alerts in accordance with this policy may be accomplished by sending you emails at the address you provide to us. All emails will include unsubscribe instructions to opt out of future emails from us. You may receive automated notices from the website (such as expiration reminders and event registration confirmations) even if you opt out of receiving other emails.


How We Protect the Information We Collect

The security, integrity, and confidentiality of your information are very important to us. We have implemented technical, administrative, and physical security measures that are designed to protect your information from unauthorized access, disclosure, use, and modification.  The information may be processed and stored by third parties including cloud service providers who have also committed to maintaining the confidentiality and security of the information.


We may use third-party contractors for provision of certain services such as event registration, email management and testing services. These third-party contractors will not use your information for any purposes other than the ones the information was provided for unless expressly consented to by you.


Data Retention

We will retain your personal information for the length of time needed to provide the services we provide you and fulfill the purposes outlined in this privacy policy unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law. To dispose of personal data, we may anonymize it, delete it or take other appropriate steps. Data may persist in copies made for backup and business continuity purposes for additional time.


Right to Access, Correct or Delete Data

If we retain any personally identifiable information about you, you have the right to see what information we retain, request corrections to that information and request deletion of that information. Any person who has provided information to BACnet International, Inc. and would like to review, correct or delete that information may email a request to  Deletion of personal data may be accomplished by removing it or anonymizing it.


Changes to this Privacy and Data Use Policy

From time to time, we may change this privacy and data use policy to accommodate new technologies, industry practices, regulatory requirements or for other purposes. We will provide notice to you if these changes are material and, where required by applicable law, we will obtain your consent. Notice may be by email to you at the last email address you provided us, by posting notice of such changes on our websites and applications, or by other means, consistent with applicable law.

Use of External Links

Our websites may contain links to third-party websites and subscription services. This Privacy and Data Use Policy only applies to our websites, including BACnet International, The BACnet Institute and the BACnet Testing Laboratories.
